HISTORY

It is a now-ruined medieval castle in Northern Ireland. It is located on the edge of a basalt outcrop in County Antrim, and is accessible via a bridge connecting it to the mainland. In the 13th century, Richard Og de Burgh, 2nd Earl of Ulster, built the first castle at Dunluce.

WHY THIS PLACE

The castle is surrounded by extremely steep drops on both sides, which may have been a major factor in the early Christians and Vikings who were drawn to this place where an ancient Irish fortress once stood.

CURIOSITIES

In 1973, the castle appeared on the inner portal of Led Zeppelin's multi-million album Houses of the Holy.
The castle appeared as Snakehead's hideout under the name ""Ravens Keep"" in the 2003 film The Medallion starring Jackie Chan.
The castle is the film location of the Game of Thrones seat of House Greyjoy, the great castle of Pyke.
Dunluce Castle is believed to be the inspiration for Cair Paravel in C. S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia (1950-54).
