HISTORY
It is the former library of the Ministry of Justice, located in The Hague, the Netherlands. When it was built in the late 19th century, there was no electricity and combustible substances such as candles and gas lamps had to be kept away from the more than 100,000 volumes. For this reason, in order to achieve as much light as possible, a glass dome was installed in place of a traditional roof, inserted in a lead structure.
WHY THIS PLACE
A scenario with a unique color and a strong cultural subtext.
CURIOSITIES
Although the library is four stories high, daylight filters down to the floor thanks to open cast-iron staircases and balustrades.
