HISTORY

Monte Cueva literally means "mountain cave". But this is not just an ordinary cave, as it houses the sanctuary of the Precious Blood of Jesus and Our Lady of the Assumption. This site was donated by Odong and Loring Chung to the Diocese of Maasin, Philippines, and was adapted to house, within the natural cave, a picturesque Chapel that has attracted many pilgrims over the years.

WHY THIS PLACE

Situated on a mountain, 172 meters above sea level, it is necessary to face a steep staircase, with 550 zigzag steps, to reach this hidden treasure. Although access is tiring, the way back is much quieter, with “only” 300 steps, and to facilitate the whole experience, due to the abundance of trees, there is always a guarantee of fresh air and shade, even when the sun is out tall and shining. The first mass was held in 1999, but the large statue of Mama Mary, which is one of the symbols of the place, was carved and placed in the sanctuary in 1992.

CURIOSITIES

To make your climb more valuable, you can stop to meditate at the stations of the cross or offer your sacrifice for a particular intention.
